    Very interesting. It is clear S approched the task from the correct perspective and the result in my opinion is excellent. But it is important that the drums are kept in for the violin version too as it seems obvious they work just as well if the arrangement is accurate, why anyone would have any doubts about this I don't know.

      I will add that Beethoven's use of the drums in the first cadenza equates with the martial nature of the allegros, certainly as I see them, not the gypsy romances we are typically subjected to - in the latter context the cadenza drums seem totally out of place. The drums are the key to the whole piece.
