If Beethoven had lived 15 to 20 more years (a lot to ask for giving his health) a daguerrotype of him may have been produced. Yet, I think I prefer no to know what he really looked like. When I think of him, I see his portrait with the Missa solemnis manuscript in his hand, his most famous portrait, the one that encompasses everything about his character and his music. Mozart could not have been portrayed that way; it would not have worked so well in my opinion.
