your favourite sonata

jus wonderin what is ur favorite sonata by beethoven. iv not heard all of them yet but most of them, all the well kown 1s. my personal favorites wud hav to be the moonlight, pathetique and appasionata, the hammerklavier is not bad either. but they r all so hard to play.

My favorite is probably the "Waldstein."

And they are hard, but some of them are with reach of us common-folk. Nos. 19 and 20 are pretty short and simple.

It is always difficult to choose a favourite.
But I am very fond of Beethoven's sonatas for Paino and Violin -
in particular the "Spring" sonata.


Though not a sonata, I would also like to mention another favourite: Trio in B flat, "Archduke", Op.97. This one I find compuslive and addictive.

No, that one is too easy to love, you must challenge yourself more I suggest the Op 111. It satisfies nearly as much as the Hammerklavier, but is digestible in easy chunks.

Actually, I know just about the third part of all the piano sonatas, and these I like all very much. My target is, to buy a set of all the 32 sonatas.

Third movement of the Moonlight sonata. All of "Les Adieux" (Sonata No. 26). The adagio of Lex Adieux is one of the most hauntingly beautiful movements I know.

Yes, it is true, but the Heroic works are so in tune with people's feelings and emotions that they ALL sound good. I was only having a bit of fun with you, in any case. Seriously though, if you haven't given the Op 111 a good chance yet, you owe it to yourself to do so. It is a fitting end to the sonata output of the greatest sonata composer.

Gurn it's a shame, but Op.111 is just a number for me, as I don't know it yet. But I'm glad that I still have so many works to explore!

the last 4 are amazing. I would say my favorite is the Op. 111. The futuristic yet "back to Bach" approach is remarkable. Making new of what was before is a trait of any great artist. Beethoven may have the been the greatest at this, ...ever!
