    Classical Elvis

I was wondering how I could sneak Elvis into this forum on the 40th anniversary of his death, but Classic FM have kindly supplied a solution:

I remember the day Elvis died; somebody I was very close to died (suicide) within a day or so. This is really the only song of his that I like, apart from "Suspicious Minds":

Today a friend at our music group (he's a trombonist and musicologist) is presenting a program entitled "Race, Records and the Tangled roots of Pop Music" and the rundown says "The complexity of its past and its wonderful penchant for myth making and the cultivation of legends makes a 'true history' of pop music elusive. But we can say with certainty that race relations and gramophone records were crucial to it."

I'm sure the appropriation of classical music by the 'pop' industry will arise as this 'abuse' was rather widespread.

Sorry to hear that. It makes it a more personal anniversary.
I wasn't a huge Elvis fan but there are about half a dozen recordings of his that I wouldn't be without.

Good point. I don't think I'll go to this desert island after all, thanks.
