    A good Tex editor?

You see, I'm studying a math book and these books come with plenty of problems (exercises). In order to solve you generaly need to write a lot. Unfortunately the computer is not great help here, because oof the large number of special symbols employed in these texts.

However, there is a thing called Tex, which circumvents that difficulty. Also there is LaTex but it is much more complex. I had, in the past, reached a point where I could write mathematical expressions, give them to Tex, and I so saw the result (saw the symbols as if written in the book). But this was several years ago and I've forgotten the whole procedure. Where to begin with? I surely must have a program that translates the source text into a Tex file. Well, if it helps this is linux.

Well, I found something that looks promising: https://www.tug.org/begin.html. Anyway any suggestions will be welcome.
