    Steinway piano-playing machine

Here's something I never realized, that your brand new pristine piano, has to go through before it finally graces your music room.

    Steinway & Sons piano-playing machine

This machine at Steinway & Sons in Hamburg plays every note on a new piano up to 10,000 times. The idea is to let all the parts of the instrument bed-in, so any final adjustments can be made in the factory before the instrument heads to its new home.

Yes I saw something about this on tv a while back - quite extraordinary the work that goes into producing a piano and I suppose reassuring if you're going to fork out for a Steinway!
