They really knew how to build instruments those days!

Beautiful. The legs of the harmonium-particularly the rosettes look like the pattern on my 1910 antique upright piano.

I'd convert it into a lavish double wardrobe, would look great in my bedroom.

Lots of Square pianos were converted into cocktail cabinets in the 60s!

Quite a nice idea but I never have that much booze in the house.

I do hope they weren't early 1800s ones...

On the subject of old things...I have a George Elliot novel from 1906; its got a tatty loose page and some stained pages, and a frayed front cover. Not good enough to ebay it (I got it free from Healthy Planet). Seems a shame to put it in the recycling bin, so I am gonna use it for art projects like collaging and painting on the pages. I have seen some cool ideas on ptinterest.

Of course - quite a travesty, but fortunately many survive or have been restored.

Don't forget this was an era of little respect for the old and fine old buildings were often replaced with modern eyesores. There were serious plans afoot to demolish the Royal pavilion in Brighton and replace it with a multi-storey car park. It was a good time to buy antiques cheaply and you could probably have picked up a square piano in a junk shop, hopefully before having had its interior ripped out.

I can't imagine there being pianos from Beethoven's time being in junk/antique shops!!!

Hope not although people do find priceless art work sometimes in the back of pictures they have purchased at thrift shops or antique shops.
