Our flat faces east so we have the morning sun hitting us first thing. So in summer we keep our blinds closed until after 12:00. By then the sun is behind us so we can open the blinds a bit but not all the way. The one ceiling fan we have (in the living room) I usually turn on around 4am and it stays on until I go to bed. We also have a Dyson standing fan that I use in our bedroom during the night as well as a floor fan that I use elsewhere as needed.
Sounds like you've got a plan! I know units one can get that blow out cold air ( like those heating hot air blowers) but I bet they run up a huge electricity bill, like those that heat the air do.

To help out my poor cat Gizmo, I always make sure that both of his water bowls are filled with fresh water. Then as an extra treat I use a wet paper towel on his head and rub it over his body as well. He loves this and it helps him to feel a bit cooler in these hot summer days here.
Hot weather is tough on furry animals, no wonder he loves the cold wet towel.

Today at about 12:00 our digital indoor/outdoor thermometer read 40°C (104°F) for the outside temp. This is the first time I have ever seen 40°C on this display. The highest outdoor temp. reading in the past was 37°C. Vienna is hotter than Rome, Madrid, Istanbul and Athens! WTF!!! This is not normal. The only relief is that it isn't humid on top of the high temps. But this may well change since they are predicting 80% chance of rain on Wednesday. Days like today here in Vienna is proof that global warming is an unfortunate fact of life.

Global warming has forgotten about Britain. Today it poured down and it is now 68 F. I have got my thick pyjamas on again and cuddling a hot water bottle and I've switched the electric blanket on my bed. Want to swap? I'd take hot Heiligenstadt over this lol.
Anyway Vienna has always had hot summers- Beethoven mentions them in his letters.

I have been living in Vienna now for 22 years and when I first moved here the summers were much cooler than they have been for the last 8 years or so. I still have some of my old Vienna tour books from the early 1990s and when you look up the average summer high temps they printed 80°F (27°C). I hope that they have corrected that data to a more accurate summer high temp. like
          34°C (93°F).

Thank god, for Thurs. they predict 79°F (26°C). There is a light at the end of this god awful hot tunnel...

You could always swap with me- cold temperatures guaranteed in Britain- no global warming here ( hot for a few days only). It is STILL raining and 68F.
And you can be sure that it will be cold October- end of May, and you will have to shell out a small fortune to the gas companies.

The Earth has her cycles- they had hugely hot summers in the 1500s and 1800s as well. It will be back to usual in a couple of years or so.

But for those who hate the heat- well there is Rain Britannia.

It's been rather hot here in Utah; June was the hottest month ever recorded. However we are now in a bit of a cool down, temperatures in the low 90's (F).

As you can see the rain arrived to greet his Holiness, The Dalai Lama at Glastonbury:

You can count on Rain Britannia every time.

p.s can you believe that he is 80 soon?! He looks so young!

Super rich? Not me but I do the best I can. It's a necessity here in the desert like a furnace is up north in the winter.

Only the super rich have air conditioned homes here. You can count on it, even if we had 90F all summer long, the plebs would have to perspire on.

It's still raining in the day and 68F.

That's too bad. We save here all winter long with bills though as we don't need any the furnace/heat then so that helps. We're having a thunderstorm now.

I'm shivering here with a hot water bottle. My Mum told me that the hot weather is supposed to be returning. Oh goodness.. please yes!

You must be up north, the weather here in the south east is very warm and sunny.

I am up north yes, well north west- that's north enough I can tell you. We were seeing reports of heatwaves in early June but that wasn't the reality up north- the Sun only visited southerners it seemed. It eventually reached us and then bogged off again, but today it is 72F! And dry.

72 sounds nice. That was our temperature early this morning but it will get much warmer later on in the day.
