    Composers G-Clef Squiggles .

I don't know how accurate this is but here are some interesting examples of the art of the Treble Clef notation, by some of of our well known composers.

Ludwig's is the simplest lol. Yet his music is not!

Yes Beethoven gets the lowest mark there for a pretty poor effort! Bach gets top marks.

I like Schubert's, though the tail isn't curved round the G line. .

As a follow on from this Classic FM has a gallery of composers' manuscripts. Some of them are really quite beautiful and yes some by our dear Beethoven are included in this.

What did the great composers' handwriting look like?

What does Bach's writing look like? How does Beethoven draw a treble clef? And which composer has the messiest scrawl? Discover this most personal of insights into these great musicians - from their own hand.

Some are quite fancy and I like Beethoven's 'backward S'.

Looking at some hand-written copies online it seems Beethoven didn't always even bother writing the clef down and when he did it was indeed that backward "S"! No wonder his copyists made mistakes from time to time...

Beethoven certainly didn't get any high marks for his penmanship.

He could write neatly when he wanted to- his signature is beautiful!
