    I like the idea of playing classical music for dogs, probably most any animal.

      Yes, animals do seem to notice music! I am very fond of animals, especially dogs.

        Here is the dog that belongs to me, Rocco, and family. Here name is Cookie. She is 5 years old (closer to 4 in photograph) and she weighs 45 pounds:

            Malinois shepherd / pit bull mix. She's great!

              I had a cat that one time was sitting with me as I listened to the Eroica. Towards the end of the last movement he seemed transfixed by the music, as it faded just prior to the coda. However when the sudden fortissimo began he nearly jumped out of his skin. Animals are aware of music.

                Hector Berlioz, in discussing Beethoven's symphonies, makes the statement about dogs and music:
                I have seen a bitch howling with pleasure on hearing a major third played in double stopping on a violin...

                      How I hate the word bitch- wish people would just say dog and use she. It has such negative connotations now doesn't it.

                      Don't mind me, I just value animals as much as humans, sometimes more so, as they are often so innocent.

                      Back to the lady dog- she obviously had good ears and a good discernment!
