    No strings attached, unexplained.

My son working in a nursing home on night duty sitting in the lounge area with one or two other colleagues, suddenly heard the resident piano strings pop one by one, about seven or eight string in succession just snapped with a twang, then a bag on the table fell off.
Just a few hours earlier one of the patients had passed away.

    This sounds freaky but true.
Is it unusual for piano strings just to snap, it was an upright and was hardly ever played.

It isn't usual for piano strings to snap at all these days, especially spontaneously! - however being in a nursing home the fluctuations caused in humidity levels by central heating could have played a part as it has been so cold lately.

The piano could be quite old, too, and not have had any upkeep for many years.
