The Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music.

In the curriculum of most musical conservatories in western countries, the study of harmony is mandatory for a student of any instrument. As regards to counterpoint, is its study also compulsory for all students in the great conservatories... say the Conservatoire de Paris or Juilliard in the US?

As another question I'd like to ask, there are two conservatories located in London. The Royal Academy of Music and the Royal College of Music. Could we fairly say that one of these is the most respected music education institution in the UK? And which of them would it be? Or, perhaps, on the contrary, there is no clear general consensus in this matter?

Both are part of the Royal Schools of Music and of equal prestige. There is also the Guildhall school of music and drama which is highly respected.

You're welcome - are you thinking of studying yourself then?

I interrupted my cello studies a long time ago, and I'm considering it as a possibility. Thanks for your interest.
