    The presence of suffering does not rule out the presence of omnipotence, Preston. If creatures are to be truly free, that is. Free to do good or free to do evil. Which we are. And there is indeed hope. Have you ever seen The Shawshank Redemption? There is a line in it I often remember. Andy, who has been falsely accused of murder and imprisoned for 20 years, is counseled by his friend, Red, that hope is a dangerous thing. But Andy, writing to Red, says:

    Remember Red, hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies.

    He is right.
