    Articles à propos of nothing

Well, here's one about Boulez (he of "Burn down the Opera houses" fame) :

And here's a more in-depth interview with the man himself :

This looks very good; thank you for posting this. Hopefully, this evening I can take some time to go through this article and interview in more depth.

My pleasure Sorrano! In the Universal Edition (UE) interview, he talks a little about Bruckner. I've got a CD of Boulez conducting Bruckner's 8th with the Vienna Phil in St Florian - it's a great performance.

PS : in the UE interview, the transciption is much longer than the actual recorded version you see.

Do you know if this performance is in a concert hall or cathedral? (I haven't rambled about this at all, but I am becoming increasingly more interested in an acoustical approach to Bruckner's music--I'll ramble more on that later).

This is the sort of thing I really like; it gives a perspective on these things that is much needed. Unfortunately, I've been out of the loop for a long time and so it's like a lot of food to a starving person.

Yes, at St. Florian, its Abbey Church (where Bruckner used to play the organ). A perfect place for the symphony !!

Here's another little article à propos of nothing, this time about how dire it is to live in the UK these days. Now don't you all come flocking over here !

Not surprised at that, but a little misleading nonetheless - seriously considering a move to France at some stage myself and having done much research it is surprising actually how the climate isn't all it's cracked up to be - you have to go quite far south to get more sunshine and having gone south you can be surprised to find you actually have colder winters, not to mention the infamous Mistral and other horrendous winds in the Languedoc that make our weather seem tame! The west coast gets more sun but a lot more rain than where I live - I believe there were terrible floods recently - they don't tell you all that in these reports!

Well of course, these surveys are fine as far as they go, and they should always be treated lightly. As if France doesn't have its share of "broken society", violence, drug problems and so on.
On the whole, the weather factor is an important difference, as is the food, state of roads and health system (these being superior in France to the UK's offer). Plus access to mountains for skiing, nicer beaches (Med or Atlantic) and the fact we are nearer to Beethoven's birthplace, Italy, Spain and Vienna. So there.

On the other hand, UK universities are far superior to the French offer, this I can tell you for sure!

And now for a litle reconstructed (well, "embellished") Mozart ...

Interesting. I hope I will be able to hear that at some point, as that is my favorite Mozart concerto.

Here's another interesting article about a forthcoming BBC documentary on the "Symphony". Please read the commentaries after the article, perhaps to be used as a springboard for further debate.
