    What's your earworm?

My latest is a song that I can't get out of my head for a few days now is a pop song/ballad, going back to the late 80's, by Simple Minds, Belfast Child. I like this song a lot, but sometimes silly tunes can come into ones head that can be annoying.

Usually it's a little tune for one of my beginner students - fortunately it's the holidays! Actually Tchaikovsky suffered from this and as a child begged his mother to make the music in his head stop!

The most obnoxious one for me is the Christmas song "Little Drummer Boy". Once I hear the first few notes it's all in my head for the rest of the day.

Mine is not too regular an earworm, but it does come back to irritate me at unexpected moments; here it is (in C major, starting in the 'cellos and basses) : C-B-C-E-D-D (pause); D-C-sharp-D-F-E-E...
        Aaaagghhh !!!!!!!!!!!!!

I knew before I even read your post that it would be the Triple Concerto. Just accept it and love it, Philip. Accept it and love it.

I'm still convinced Archie-Baby Rudolph wrote this work with B's input (add "grinning" icon).

This probably doesn't qualify as an earworm, mainly because this is not annoying to me, but since listening to the Bruckner 3rd yesterday the polka theme from the finale has been in my head all morning.

Yes, Bruckner wrote some catchy little themes, didn't he !!!

Usually the scherzo's stick with me for a long time, but in this case it's that polka theme. And then, of course, the superimposed chorale keeps intruding.

Sorrano, I always knew you were a studious type (you've been reading your Horton, haven't you?). But it's quite true, that superimposition of the chorale on the polka. I never knew its "significance" until I too had read the Horton, that according to contemperaneous reports Bruckner was out walking with a friend and passed between two houses; one with some luminary's coffin in it (the chorale) and the other having a bit of a knees up (the polka)!
Then again, old LvB also combined disparate thematic material in his works, too.
In any case, they were all mad, and I'm thankful for it.

But back to Bruckner's Third (first version, especially) : Lord, it's long !!! Makes B's Eroica seem like a bagatelle!

And the polka appears to me as a variation of the chorale, but that's just from a cursory glance at the score as quoted in the Horton.
