    Sorry to revive this old thread, though I have not been able to get that Shakespeare poem out of my mind lately. I thought about your question (quoted above) and remembered I was not entirely sure at the time.

    Now, after thinking more about what he has written (which is most deep and profound, imo) - he, Shakespeare, is asking a question, or wondering about a question, thinking about a question, etc. and speaking his concerns and thoughts, etc. about it. He is questioning not only death - but, primarily, what happens after death, it seems to me.

      I wanted to add that what Shakespeare questions, writes, thinks, etc. are some of the most terrifying things imaginable.
