Most of my 14 years in Vienna has been living here in Heiligenstadt (in Vienna's 19th district). I am originally from Los Angeles but Heiligenstadt is my home sweet home now.

You are so lucky, Hollywood! I would love to relocate somewhere entirely different from where I am (Grand Rapids, US) ...but the best I got out of my husband WAS the 90 mile move to Grand Rapids.
The last attempt I made on him to relocate somewhere somewhat adventurous was Alaska, since he didn't want to touch Europe. He just looked at me like I was crazy.
Sometimes I think Beethoven was fortunate to remain single, whether he thought so or not!
So do they have all kinds of Beethoven stuff at Heiligenstadt? I've been to Europe a couple of times, would like to return...throught Bonn (because of the Beethovenhaus) would probably be the best bet for Beethoven... How much Beethoven stuff is in Vienna? A couple people have told me that Austrians aren't the most friendly lot--though that's such a generalization it's hardly worth considering.
I did, however, see music in Beethoven's hand at the British Museum...
Cheers!
J.

Are you in Grand Rapids Michigan or Minnisota? If you are in Michigan you are practically my neighbor. I live in Zeeland (close to Holland) and it is only 20 minutes from Grand Rapids.
Well we will just have to get together sometime. Especially since it looks like we have a lot in commen...Beethoven, music and wine. Those are three of my favorite things.
There's quite a bit of Beethoven stuff here to see in Vienna and way more than one would find in Bonn. There are many places where he lived, visited, performed or ate at that you can see, along with the 2 cemeteries where he was buried. So if you ever do decide to visit Europe, Vienna would be well worth coming to for any Beethoven fan.

Heidi-Sure!! I know all the excellent Italian restaraunts in the area...as I work for one while going through college. They're mostly related. I'm sure you've been to Vitale's?? I just got into wine tasting...I'm hooked on German wine right now, especially Reisling.
Gardibolt-I'd be game for that, too... Too bad the Grand Rapids Symphony doesn't do the 9th or something, GR would be da bomb for a Beethoven convention.
Terry--Forgot to ask in the other message I left, where are you in Italia? I was in Roma two years ago and LOVED IT!
Thanks for that info, Hollywood, else I'd probably have just done Bonn. I'd still like to see the Beethovenhaus, but I'd much rather see where Beethoven lived, worked, and loved. Heiligenstadt sounds absolutely lovely...tho I'm still working on spelling the name consistently! Perhaps someday I'll make it to Vienna...
Cheers to everyone and the world, too, I just sat my Organic Chemistry exam and it was easy!!! I'm so glad school is done for a bit! Yay!

Living there is a Testament to your musical appreciation (there's a joke in there, somewhere....I think.... ).
