    Quick Fix?

This isn't particularly relevant to the Beethoven site but I wonder if Chris or somebody could suggest an easy solution to this problem:
Whenever I click on certain links - a good example is the profile symbol at the Beethoven Forum - a new Microsoft Explorer page appears and my computer promptly freezes and I have to shut down and reboot.

Most links are okay. The trouble seems to be with links that call up a new Explorer page on top of the one that I have opened.
Don't know if this makes sense but am wondering if there's an easy cure.
    Tks

That's pretty strange. I can suggest, first of all, reinstalling Microsoft Internet Explorer (the most recent version your computer can handle, which is 5.5 for Windows 95 and the most recent version of 6 for Windows 98 and above). All your settings should be carried over, so you won't have to mess with anything.

If that doesn't work, you may want to reinstall Windows, which you should also be able to do without wiping out any settings or losing any files (so long as you do not format your hard drive first).

One or both of those things would probably clear it up in 99% of the cases. There's always the possiblity that you have some other weird software installed that is somehow messing with your system, though, and then you'd have to find a different solution.

Thanks, Chris. I'll have a go at re-installing Explorer and see how that works.

From the age of 4 of 5 Beethoven's father begun to give him daily lessons in the piano and violin.
Young Ludwig stood on a stool to reach the keyboard, and was kept at his lessons by the iron hand of his father.
