    "Symphonies" link

Is the listing of CD recommendations under the "Symphonies" link on this site the beginning of the recommended CD element that has been alluded to in the past? If so, why are they only period instrument performances? Also, why are there no comparable CD recommendations for the "Concertos" link on the home page?

Well, I'm not sure about the Concertos, but the symphony suggestions were made by a guy who doesn't listen to anything but. If you want a good set of recordings with modern instruments, I would suggest George Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra on Sony. Look here - http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...750202-4822362 - it's a great set.

Hi Kevin - I have tried emailing you before about this, but the mail is always returned and can't be sent, something wrong with your email address. The Symphony pages are separate from the intended recommended recordings - (They were done by Rod who has a passion for period instruments). I admit the recommended recording pages are taking a long time, but I really am very busy you know - They are a project that I want in time to add to the site, and when they are done they will include period and modern instrument recommendations.

Because modern instruments are tonaly monotonous.

Chris thanks for the suggestion. I do have the Szell set and it is quite good.

Peter, I am not trying to rush you on your recommendations(although I am curious), however, I was getting the impression that Rod's advice might be the format - I simply wasn't sure.

And Rod, do you mean "tonaly" or totally monotonous?

              This is so true!

              PS:
I will post some personal appreciations and questions on the sonata Op. 111 soon (tomorrow may be). I have so little time these days! Meanwhile check this essay on the mentioned sonata. I found it interesting in some aspects although the main hypothesis seems too venturous to me. But that is something you will surely be under better conditions to determine than me...
