Well, what is Covid compared to the Black Death?

Interesting! Even our current pandemic does not stand up against the influenza pandemic of 1918 where an estimated 50 million perished. So far, according to the CDC numbers (Worldometers.info) the total deaths from COVID are just over 6 million.

The 1918 figures are known for Influenza in the US and were about 300, 000. And world wide possibly 1 to 2 million. The figures have been hugely inflated since at least the 1950's.
So far as the Plague is concerned, we have known these so called facts for at least 75 years. Every historian knows that the plague was transmitted initially by huge numbers of corpses that were floating in rivers caused by the Mongol and Byzantine warfare. The infected fleas sought a host in the rat population and the toxin was produced by the chemical reaction between the infected fleas and the rats blood system.
A truly fascinating question however, which is still unresolved is about the whole germ theory of disease. Granted these were very powerful pathogens. But, the anti germ theorists state that if the immune systems of medieval people had been strong enough they could have combated even this toxin.
There are huge issues here, both medically and philosophically, which the Covid business has scarcely even touched.
