A good starting point for your studies on Beethoven, would be, Thayer's Life of Beethoven, This is the standard Biography for scholars and general readers.
Available at any good bookstore.

Yes Thayer's Life.. is the book I always recommend. It's very long though, usually found in two volumes. Easily the most comprehensive, if not the most modern, biography.
