Mendelsshon plays and Conducts?

Is it possable that Mendelsshon could have played and conducted Beethoven's E flat Major Concerto at the same time?

Sure, Mozart did it routinely with his concertos, and I seem to remember B doing it himself sometimes. Mendelssohn was widely considered to be the greatest conductor of his time (although not the greatest pianist, still, pretty good), I think it would have been not out of the ordinary, IMHO.
