Yes, not a bad effort from Brendel here. This comes from a 3 disk boxed full of the lesser known variations and a few sonatas and klavierstucke that is cheap and good value, though the recordings are old with variable sound quality.

Yes, very good. You know, I don't remember where, but I once heard this piece played at about half the tempo of this recording. Needless to say, it was crap.

Is this the Vox Box set from 1963? I have that, and I agree, good performance, variable but generally good sound, a hell of a bargain for $14 US!!

It occured to me that perhaps you were confused because I was in general praising a performance that turns out to be on a 'modern' piano. Well, whilst I believe Brendel understands this piece and playes it as well as probably possible on the PF, be assured that if this same level of application was applied using a good FP then the result would have been even better. Please always bear this in mind if you ever read me complimenting a performance of Beethoven using a modern piano!

Not to fear. In my mind,
Fortepiano + Rod = Yes
Pianoforte + Rod = No.

This is hardwired into my cerebellum and I run serious risk of a fatal crash of my brain if this logic is breached. I never allow it to be tampered with.

Alas Brendel is getting rather more exposure than I intended! (I knew he'd get me back one day). I was going to upload the next piece before I left London for Xmas but forgot to do it. So you'll have to wait until Jan for the Handel Fugue arrangement. Sorry folks!
