    Tempest Problem

The fourth note of the initial phrase of the first 8 measures of the Tempest are marked staccato in my dover edition. Neither Brendel nor Badura perform it staccato. I'm wondering if anyone knows of anybody who performs it staccato and what your ideas on it are?

I assume you are referring to the first note in Bar 2 (A) - well this clearly is not a staccato note. It has a pause mark over it, perhaps your Dover edition omitted the curved line over the dot? It is worth pointing out also that Beethoven doesn't always want a staccato when he uses a dot over a note - sometimes it is meant as an accent.

That must a problem on your edition, for I also have dover (which I like very much) and mine does not have the dot, only on the c# and the e, but they are slured as well...
