no more classical music station!!!

I live in South Florida, and they have gotten rid of our classical music station!!!!!! It is now a "dance music" station, which sounds the same as every other crappy station out there. Now, the only way I can listen to classical music on the radio is at certain times during National Public Radio. It is such a disgrace. Talk about lack of high culture.

Seems to be the sad trend - specialist classical shops too are becoming scarcer.

Yes this is very sad news .But there is a lot of wonderful classical music avalible on the internet and I can recomend CBC radio two as a wonderful resorce that includes a five hour request show ( called Take Five),one only needs to email and lo and behold it appears like magic.The address is cbc.ca.I have often used it whenever Rod has alluded to some (to me) obscure Handel Opera or other.

Yes, it's sad. In the Denver metro area within the last two years the best of our classical stations bit the dust, after its corporate owner decided to switch it to an AM format (unbelievably dumb move! ).

Fortunately there's still some good live music. The University of Colorado in Boulder has a new adventurous series of contemporary classical music concerts, and there's an active early music scene here. I myself play in a community orchestra that can handle most of the Romantic masterworks. But if I want to hear anything really good at a moment's notice, I often rely on my own collection, which fortunately is extensive.

BTW, has anybody else noticed that there's almost no good pop music either these days? Where are the new Beatles equivalents? or the new Grateful Dead? Will there be ANY good music in a hundred years?

That is very bad news. Here in Phoenix, the classical radio station has been going strong for ten years. The very first classical music piece they played was Beethoven's 5th Symphony. They just got done with a pledge drive which will insure many more hours of classical music. If you want to listen to it over the internet just hit http://kbaq.org/ and then 'listen'.

There's also many live classical events here too all over the valley which makes it very nice to live somewhere where they have all these musically cultural events.
