This is a slow and sombre number that the Romantics here may prefer, in English the song is called 'In this dark tomb'. But again I offer my appologies for Fischer-Dieskau, who alas is incapable of singing in Italian.

A couple of years ago, I taped off the radio a version of this song with a lush orchestral backing. It came as quite a shock compared to the original stark setting. The singer was no less than the (in)famous Pavarotti. I was surprised to hear that it was also arranged by him.
You normally don't associate Pavarotti with Beethoven but I think he picked the Pastoral Symphony as one of his desert island discs at some stage, so there is hope for him yet.
