About Beethoven's parents

I've been told that both of Beethoven's parents had medical problems which were supposed to have led to him also having many.
I've been trying to find this info everywhere, but haven't been able to.
Does anyone know the facts about this?

I think you would have been a rare and lucky person not to have had some medical problems in the 18th century - many diseases which are easily treatable or preventable through vaccination were a possible death sentence, such as Smallpox (which Beethoven survived). Beethoven's mother died at about 40 years of age of what was then called Consumption (TB). His father probably died of alcohol related disease. Aside from his deafness (which probably could have been treated today)Beethoven's main health problems were intestinal - he complained about this many times throughout his life - again it could have been treated today.
