The 24-hour Beethoven Ninth has been done before, Peter. Have you heard Karl Bohm's version? I admit I quite like it, but don't tell Rod!

I bought that recording by Bohm on DG years ago. I'm surprised they managed to squeeze it onto one cd!

This I did not know, Michael. Did Bohm perform it on radio? On the Net? Or where - surely not LPs?!!!

                No, I won't tell Rod.

This is fun - posting simultaneously with Rod - it's just like being in a chat room!!

A 24 hour CD? Now that is good value for money!

I was being facetious, Peter, which is totally foreign to my nature. Bohm's 1981 Ninth only feels like being 24 hours in length. The adagio and the finale are taken at normal speeds (for the late seventies) but the first and second movements must be the slowest on record (or CD).
I mentioned before that I quite like it as an accasional alternative because of all the extra detail I can pick up in the first movement. It's like slowing down Beethoven's speed of thought so that ordinary Joes like me can follow it without a score. And Bohm does make the allegro sing, which is not to be sneezed at (unless you're at a live concert).
I know that Rod and Suzie have used this CD as a frisbee.
