Kakadu Piano Trio variations op. 121a

I am really amazed: I thought I knew all Beethovens major works and now I discovered the Kakadu Piano Trio variations op. 121a. I never really had an interest in these because I thought they were from Beethovens early youth. Now I heard it several times recently with the performance of Barenboim and du Pre. I can say - they are fantastic and I think the introduction and the Adagio towards the end and the following fugato variation are certainly from his late years!

Enjoy if you also don't know this work:

    Helpful are these remarks: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kakadu_Variations
"...Like the introduction, this final variation shows a chromatic and contrapuntal complexity that goes beyond what Beethoven achieved in his early works, and that likely reflects revisions made during his period of greatest maturity."
