With a little help from my friends.

In Bach's St.Matthew Passion there is an aria for alto with violin obligato, called erbarme dich mein gott. Does it belong to the first or the second part, some kind soul can tell me?

Thanks a lot, Megan. Now for the second round: In imslp.org I find there are two works (versions). They are BWV 244 and BWV 244b (both bearing the name Matthauspassion). Which is the one more commonly herd in concerts?

BWV 244 is the usual version heard today. BWV 244b is an earlier version.
