A receipt that Beethoven acknowledges the payment of the rich quartet E s - D ur op. 127 - the first of the five "late string quartets".
The receipt is extra special for the ABS because it is directly connected with a Beethoven autograph letter already owned by the Center. In their letter, dated November 16, 1824, Beethoven wrote to the Schott publishing firm that the quartet would soon be delivered for publication. The receipt currently up for auction, which dates from April 1825, relates to the 50 ducats Beethoven received from Schott in payment for the completed quartet. Purchasing this receipt would enable them to preserve two partner manuscripts connected with one of Beethoven's most important late works.
