    Beethoven's very last project

Beethoven's very last project was a planned string quintet in C in November 1826 of which we know an arrangement of the Andante Maestoso introduction for piano by A. Diabelli:

From this 18 years ago I tried a rearrangement for a string quartet and futhermore I also continued with the use of Beethoven's sketches for the main Allegro theme and a further theme (at 2:17). Now I recorded this with my new notation tool NotePerformer which is so much better than my old renditions:

    I. Andante Maestoso / Allegro

    II. Andante cantabile con variazioni
Second movement with variations on the short sketch from Beethoven for this work:

    III. Scherzo Presto
A fiery Scherzo in c-minor for the string quartett, again based on an unusual motif sketch (with his "Fate-motif in the bass) by Beethoven - his last sketched Scherzo idea before he died ...

    IV. Allegro vivacce
For me the climax of the work, based on a most friendly and vivid theme by Beethoven which is somewhat familiar to the Rondo theme from the quartett op. 130, but which I adore even more.

What is striking is the simplicity of the beautiful thoughts which are quite a contrast to his last string quartets which he wrote in the previous months... I hope this will find your interest ...
