Taking a long break from Beethoven

As a worshiper of Beethoven's music I have listened to everything by the composer. For the past several years I've been obsessed with the late period and managed to digest everything he did during that era (with the exception of the Diabelli Variations which I've been slowly starting to appreciate.)

I will not listen to Beethoven's oeuvre for five years in the hope that it somewhat seeps out of my consciousness so that I may "re-discover" it.

Since music is so easily available these days given the nature of Web 2.0 services like Youtube and Spotify it's become all too easy to spoil yourself on any composer you happen to love, as access is a few clicks away, and I might have spoiled myself on Beethoven. For example, I have no desire to listen to the symphonies or piano concerti -- i know them too well and can remember most passages (these works are also overplayed on classical radio which I also plan to avoid.)

    Let's see how this goes!

Best of luck. I once tried taking a Beethoven break. I think I lasted about a week.

A huge challenge. Good luck with that, Humoresque.

Well, take in some Mahler or something else for a while and come back to Beethoven in a few weeks or months, however the spirit moves you.
