Yes, I've not heard of the conductor nor did I hear the performance which is available on BBC Radio 3. The text explains near the beginning that the 7th finale was played as an encore which is rather odd.

I missed that! It was indeed a strange choice of encore - not that I would have complained.

I've seen Currentzis several times, and he is quite special. By training, he's a ballet performer, I understand, and it shows in his conducting. Very theatrical, a show man, but no less effective and spectacular in the performances I saw. He certainly manages to get the most of his orchestra and nowadays travels around the world with an orchestra which till his arrival was obscure. And when he has a soloist playing with the orchestra, like Kopatchinskaya (Beethoven VC), it really gets absolutely electrifying. Not all might like his style, but he rejuvenates a visit to a concert.
