Always worth revisiting! I wish I knew how the 3-voice Mass Kyrie was actually sung. It should be nine-fold, so I don't think as written, but singing each section three times sounds too repetitive. I've read that it should be alternated with a chant setting, but no one seems completely sure.

        Beethoven's Italian Part-Songs.
Beethoven was studying vocal writing under Salieri at the time. They are quite beautiful and, whatever his shortcomings as a composer, I think Salieri was an excellent teacher.

Or maybe Beethoven allowed himself to be taught by a "lesser" composer and not a great one like Haydn.
Either way, these unjustly neglected songs owe their existence to the man who brutally murdered Mozart.
(He did, you know. I saw the movie! )

Salieri was obviously a fine teacher going by this list of just some of his pupils:
Ludwig van Beethoven, Carl Czerny, Johann Nepomuk Hummel, Franz Liszt, Giacomo Meyerbeer, Ignaz Moscheles, Franz Schubert.

Never heard of the second one so I'll give that a listen.

                    Part: Lamentate

When the work ended I had a similar distinct feeling of sadness that I get when I finish a scrumptious meal in a restaurant. I am left with a craving for more.

Doesn't Pendereki have a St. Mattew passion?
