Indeed, very effective! Seems that there were piccolos added, as well?

One piccolo added. One piccolo can pierce the entire auditorium!

          Adieu to the piano.
A pretty little piece, questionably attributed to Beethoven.

Glad you enjoyed that. I'm not a great fan of his symphonies but I haven't listened to them for a long time. However I think he is at his best in his orchestral suites and I like the ballet suite from Raymonda.

For so many years I adore the slow movements by Mahler (from symphonies 2, 3, 5, 6, 9) but not until now I got to know the one from the 4th symphony! Especially the first part is unbelievably beautiful!

Absolutely - I've always preferred the 4th and 6th slow movements to the 5th, lovely as that is - perhaps it's because it always conjures up 'Death in Venice' for me!

Interesting performance of Haydn's symphony no.103 - anyone have any thoughts on that opening which I have never heard performed like that before? The finale at 22'14 is breathtaking!

Listening to a riveting performance of Carmina Burana.

And, with the help of this amazing video, I have finally understood the lyrics.

You really need to see it to appreciate all the subtleties in this wonderful piece.

Listening to a couple of recordings of Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin. A lot of wonderful music in this opera.

Also listened to Scriabin's piano sonatas over the weekend.
