orchestrated Adagio - do you guess the original work ?

Recently I was so moved by a wonderful chamber music piece that I tried to orchestrate it as I have done it with other pieces before. Do you recognise it? If not - who may be the composer? For me it is one of the most expressive Adagios I know

This is the adagio from Mendelssohn's Quartet No.6 in F minor Op.80 - lovely piece and just shows how his chamber music aside from the great Octet is neglected.

Yes, Peter! Did you recognise it right away? The instruments are not perfectly balanced yet, I am still working on it.
This quartett is considered as the Requiem for his died sister Fanny and would be also hia own, because he died soon afterwards with an tragic age of 38 . How I love Mendelssohn!!

I recognised it as Mendelssohn and then it came to me - I didn't know it was the last major work he wrote.

Now I tried to do the same with one of the most dramatic string quartett movements I know - the first movement which he wrote under the devastating impression of the death of his beloved sister:

Exactly one year ago I posted my favourite first Allegro string quartett movement for orchestra - from Mendelssohns last quartett. Now I recorded it again with Noteperformer and I am amazed how much better and more dramatic it has become (same link as 2 posts above above). I am working now on the Adagio ...

I am happy now also to present the wonderful Adagio which for me is one of the most beautiful and deep felt Adagios of chamber music and certainly Mendelssohn's most personal Adagio. It is breathtaking as a sublime and intimate string quartett movement as well as a symphonic orchestra movement which I tried to a accomplish here with NotePerformer:
