The wonderful Jessye Norman singing R.Strauss 'Wiegenlied'. I bought this recording on tape many years ago and it is first rate and includes the sublime 4 last songs.

Jessye Norman is absolutely a phenomenon. Unbeatable. Her voice has such power that at times she just overwhelms the music, IMO.

This afternoon and tonight it's Brahms for me: Piano Quintet in F (Andre Previn), Piano Concerto in D (Ashkenazy) and, during washing up after entertaining this evening, Clarinet Sonata in E Flat Major, Op. 120 No. 2. Apparently the Adagio in the 1st Piano Concerto was inspired by Clara Schumann and dedicated to her.

My idol Brahms never lets me down.

Last night I had a bit of a funny musical experience. While listening to random tracks from Amazon's Alexa I heard the third movement of Beethoven's 5th Symphony. It lead up to none other than the first movement of Mozart's Eine Kleine Nachtmusic, which reminded me a bit of P.D.Q. Bach.

Right now Beethoven's Ninth. Jessye Norman, Georg Solti, don't know the orchestra. Just a coincidence. Yesterday night, Alban Berg's violin concerto.

Beethoven today, of course. Piano sonatas Opus 22 and 26 and the A minor violin sonata.

Got to admit I had never heard of Jan "Dismal" Zelenka but this is a pierce that rocks! Enjoy:

You've lost me Quijote (good to hear from you by the way!) - I put it down to the time of year and perhaps your early indulgences which might also explain your confusion over the current season? Your link is to William Byrd unless you are cryptically referring to this old thread?

Yes Zelenka was quite a discovery for me too earlier this year, anything but dismal! The Byrd link you posted was also sublime, thanks!
