There is some great music here. The duos for violin and viola stand out to me -- I have always loved this simple combination. Haydn's six sonatas for violin and viola are also less known works worth exploring. And of course Mozart's Sinfonia Concertante for Violin, Viola and Orchestra is a wonderful piece with these two instruments sharing the spotlight (though hardly a less known work).

As a Mozart freak, I am aware of all of these.
Chris - you are referring to Michael Haydn's 6 sonatas for violin & viola. They don't come close to Mozart. I usually don't say anything condescending about the great masters, but you can't compare the M. Haydn & Mozart sonatas.

No, I am referring to the six sonatas for violin and viola, Hob. VI:1-6 by Joseph Haydn. He entered them in his catalog as "violin solos with viola accompaniment".

I stand corrected, Chris. Michael Haydn wrote only 4 duos, as Mozart "completed" his job by composing the "remaining" 2 duos.
