George Onslow String Quartet no. 28 in E flat major - his chamber music really is very fine and should be better known (by me!!)

The first movement especially- what grandeur and power!

I think this is my favourite piano concerto of his!

What is everyone's opinion of this work? Personally I don't think it belongs in that group of lesser Beethoven works that I often hear.

It isn't my favourite Beethoven, but I agree it deserves to be heard more - one of the problems is the unusual combination itself.

'Veillons au Salut de l'Empire' - The French National anthem under Napoleon who strangely replaced the Marseillaise (which had been the National anthem since 14 July 1795) with this:

Strangely laid back for a national anthem. (Especially the French one!)

I've been listening to Haydn's Paukenmesse (Missa in tempore belli) with Bernstein conducting.

As I'm reading Berlioz's highly entertaining memoirs, listening to the "Grande Symphonie funebre et triomphale", Op. 15. Wonderful to picture him marching to the Place de la Bastille conducting this with a sword!
