    R.I.P. Sir George Martin

    Not only did George Martin discover and develop the Beatles, he was a musician and composer and an absolute gentleman. I am certain a lot of people of my generation owe their continuing interest in all forms of music to this man. He will be sadly missed.

    As a small example of his contribution to the Beatles legacy, the faux harpsichord middle section of this song was composed and played by him. That passage alone led to my interest in other music. (It's at 1.28)

    The same applies to people of my generation. I remember back in the 90s, when I was a teenager, first starting to really discover the music of the Beatles with my friends. His arrangements and production really elevated the music from standard pop/rock into something more interesting. His double string quartet arrangement for "Eleanor Rigby" always stood out to me:
