    Beethoven's (24)5th

It's that day again, folks. Beethoven is only 5 years off the big 250!

As I said last year, I'm not going to keep reminding everybody that it's also my granddaughter's birthday as well. I'm sure you are all tired of hearing that.
(Her name is Anna and she is 6, by the way.)

    Happy birthday to Anna!
    And the great ageless Maestro.

Happy Birthday, Beethoven and Anna! 6 years old already? Time for piano lessons, maybe!

Yep! She's having them. She could possibly be as big a musical genius as her granddad.

I've got to get my nephew started - he's 7 already! He seems more interested in Bach than Beethoven, though.

How unusual a 7 year old likes Bach!

He sees me play Bach on the organ, and I think it is the organ that he especially loves - the giant sound it makes, playing on the different manuals and the pedals. I gave him a DVD of Ton Koopman playing Bach organ and harpsichord works, and he is mesmerized by it. He especially loves the "Little" Fugue in G minor, BWV 578 and "Wachet auf, ruft uns die Stimme" from the Schübler Chorales, BWV 645.

If he is anything like me, though, he won't be a big fan when he actually tries to play Bach! I remember being very frustrated working on the two-part inventions for my piano lessons. It seemed less appealing than Beethoven but a lot more effort. I wound up playing a lot of Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin, and Joplin, and playing as little Bach as possible. It was only later, when I really learned how to practice, that I came back to Bach and enjoyed playing his music.

Yeahhh I can imagine trying to learn to play something by Bach must be tough!

At last Google has done something for the big birthday!
I'm just slightly disappointed that they have opted for the less likely date of the 17th (Beethoven's baptismal date).
And Google never mentioned my granddaughter!

Google also had it there yesterday , Michael.
I was wondering why it is still there. Anyway, well done for Google!
