    Schubert's Death and the Maiden!

I was in town this afternoon and at an art gallery in an 18th century building and in the courtyard they had an ad on a mini blackboard- SCHUBERT: DEATH AND THE MAIDEN, 7.30 Friday 12th June, 7.30.
I ran over to it and found to get the ticket one went to a man who makes and repairs violins. I got a ticket!
I have met him before- he was at a Mozart concert ( string quartet of the Requiem) I went to there a couple of months ago. The concert is being played by a string quartet in a Scandinavian church. I wonder if it's the same Quartet- the cellist plays a 1700s cello!
I am looking forward to that!

Thanks Peter. I don't think I have heard this Quartet as yet. I'm purposely not pre listening on you tube as it is nice to have a first listening played live. They are also playing a Quartet by Haydn!

Well time to log off and get my things together and call the taxi.

I shall report back how it was later..

The concert was great! The 19th century church the concert was held in is beautiful- all alcoves, stained glass windows, wooden doors and floor with an old grandfather clock, piano, organ and wonderful acoustics. I went by myself as none of my friends could make it, but that turned out fine as everyone was so friendly, and I even chatted to the musicians. I just love going to a smaller venue concert where you get to chat with the musicians, especially when they are local people. There is a real community feel to this. One of the organisers makes and restores violins also.
As well as the Schubert, they played Haydn's string quartet No.6 Op.1- lovely!
