Benjamin Zander: The transformative power of classical music

Benjamin Zander has two infectious passions: classical music, and helping us all realize our untapped love for it -- and by extension, our untapped love for all new possibilities, new experiences, new connections.

I watched this some time ago and watched it again just now. Nice to see someone with an upbeat attitude in this day and age. I'm more of the doom & gloom school. It's not that I think a significantly higher percentage of folk can't learn to love or at least appreciate classical music. Of course they can. I just don't see enough of the right people in the right places willing to invest the time, energy and money necessary for it to happen.

Yes Mr Zander is fun! The problem is DP is that the "masses" are fed pop music from an early age- it is very ubiquitous and played nearly everywhere one goes. That's all that most people hear. Another factor is that pop music is programme music- with lyrics and part of everyday modern mainstream culture- so the "masses" seem to relate to it. Classical music is quite often absolute music and from earlier centuries- which the masses seem to think is not as relatable sadly. But when I go to concerts I still see big audiences. I don't think classical music will be for the museum yet!
