I need to have a little rant..

I was supposed to go to a concert last night (Mozart and Schubert) but due to having a ROTTEN cold, I couldn't go. I knew one of the performances was Mozart's Exsultate Jubilate, but I didn't think I knew it, so just tried not to think about being on the sofa in my pyjamas sneezing instead of being at the concert.

I just looked it up and it was written for a Castrato ( of whom I have been reading about on a coursera course and of whom I have a great interest anyway...) and I think it might have been on the Farinelli film as I am sure I have heard it before.

I am now VERY ANNOYED at my stupid cold!!! Why'd I have to get a STINKING cold NOW so I couldn't see this amazing Mozart motet???

I would have loved to have seen it- I expect it'd have been sung by a countertenor.

I have the Ninth to go to next month- I am stocking up the drugs cupboard before then- even if I have to rattle with pills I am not missing that!!!

Here is Michael Maniaci who is said to have a very castrato like voice:

He's amazing isn't he! I bet Mozart would like his voice.

I still haven't recovered from bailing out on Opus 130 and the Grosse Fuge due to a headache, so I know how you feel.

That was disappointing for you to miss the concert, AeolianHarp, so frustrating when that happens. I do hope you will get plenty other opportunities to attend others. I'm sure you will be ok for the 9th.
Something similar happend to me a on a couple of occasions . Once when a friend had a cold, and another time when we had to walk out during a Richard III play, when my husband had a coughing fit. It's hopeless trying to stifle a cough.

Plenty more booked yes. I hope the Mozart motet will come on again in the future. I shall be raiding home bargains for Sudofed tablets and be well stocked up. I had 2 left, though not sure they are much cop. My nose is still blocked, itchy and sneezing loads. Perhaps I can find better pills. I've had fruit, Echinacea, smoothies..
I really should be more vigilant with the Echinacea- experience has shown me continual daily doses from October- March means zero colds.

          What a shame!
I had a cough first and spent £10 on a herbal throat spray- next day no cough, but the day after by the evening ( Friday) the cold hit my nose.

Just two days before I was to attend a string quartet recital last year, I developed a nasty chest infection and a tickly cough. I had to make an exception and take antibiotics - and, guess what? Only then did I discover I was allergic to penicillin.
Luckily, the recital was in a room of a semi-stately home and I had seats at the back right next to the door. I had two pockets filled with soft (silent) cough sweets - and - wonder of wonders, I was able to stay for the full performance (all three of Beethoven's Razumovskys).
Next day, I had a rash and a sore mouth but at least I heard the music.

Glad you got to hear the Razumovskys Michael, despite all that!

Back when I was at university, the Academy of Ancient Music came, and I had to miss the concert to work on an engineering project. They were playing right across the street from my dorm, and I had to miss them!

By the way, in terms of good concerts, Chailly and Leipzig Gewandhausorchester were in Brussels on Sunday and did an absolutely electrifying Mahler 1. And to boot we got Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto No2 as an appetizer (well that is too diminutive), with Julian Rachlin. Another wonderful concert. I've been really lucky this year.

A shame to have to miss a concert. Your consideration for others is surely appreciated, but I would have a hard time staying home.

I did attend Mendelssohn's Elijah on Feb 14. Was a wonderful concert at Hill Auditorium on the University of Michigan campus. Think it was about 4 degrees F that evening and the walk from the parking structure was miserable.
