Das Glück der Freundschaft, Op. 88

I can't seem to find a good English translation to the subject Lied. I have tried my hand at it, and I was wondering if someone whose German is better than mine could critique the following and suggest improvements. Thanks to whoever responds.

    The Happiness of Friendship

    He lives a blissful life,
    Who wins another's heart.
    For shared pleasure doubles,
    But shared grief melts away.

    Wandering down flowery paths
    In intimate companionship,
Golden friendship gives him its arm
    In this trying time.

It awakens strength and inspires courage
    For noble deeds only,
And nourishes in us a sacred ardor
    For truth and nature.

The goal of happiness is reached
By the one who finds a maiden
    With whom tender love
    Intimately binds him.

Delighted by her, united in her,
    His path is brightened.
Through her alone the world blooms,
    And everything smiles upon him.

I only know bits of German myself. Looks like you've done a good job on it. Gerd who is a member here, is German, so maybe he will be so kind as to look that this for you.

      Dear friends,

The first edition, (of which I have a copy) brings the text in German and Italian.

      And Italian Mp3: http://www.lvbeethoven.it/Beethoven-...Opus088ita.mp3

      And Italian Text:

      Beato quei che fido amor
      Mai seppe meritar!
      Ei solcherà senza timor
      Di questa vita il mar.

      Dovunque lo conduca il ciel,
      Gli ride dolce fior;
La gioja non là cuopre un vel,
      Si scema ogni dolor.

      Ei sente l'alma divampar
      Di generoso ardir;
Il vero ei puote sol amar,
      Del bello sol gioir.

Felice chi ad un fido sen
      Può cheto riposar,
E negl' occhietti del suo ben
      Contento si specchiar!

Che in mezzo agli disastri ancor
      Quel sol gli riderà,
Ed a più bella calma oror
      Tutto gli tornerà.

I put this from Internet. My copy is the same but very spoiled! I have some "souvenirs" (First editions, books, watches objects ....) .... Maybe I'll put them in the post "You Beethoven Collection", if you want!

Oh please do Armando! You know how I love historical items, especially anything to do with Beethoven, music and clocks!
Incidentally, my 1940s alarm clock died yesterday morning. It was fine. I wound it as usual, it was ticking when I went to sleep and in the morning it was silent, and its winder is now loose.

I bought a modern alarm clock (battery) from the pound shop and that doesn't work either.

I really have bad luck with clocks.

                      Dear Chris,
The recording of all six quartets are ready.
I wrote the booklet and this is the final cover: http://www.lvbeethoven.it/Avveniment...i-Anhang2.html (bottom of page) For editorial reasons the release of the double CD has been postponed for a few month.
