I've been on an Op.2 No.3 kick lately. Listened to a number of performances of it at YouTube: Lang Lang, Arrau, Schnabel, Brendel, one or two more. Heard my favorite of the several Valentina Lisitsa renditions of the Moonlight. Listened to a couple of the Brautigam Beethoven disks.

I've been listening to this cycle of Beethoven's piano concertos. I think you might like it, Aeolian.

I was rather hoping they are HIP- and you didn't disappoint there Hal! Thanks for that.

Right now I am listening to:

Vintage recordings are so lush and emotive!!! This is the great Rach himself in the 1930s.

During lunch yesterday I listened to a CD of Alfred Brendel performing the Hammerklavier live in concert. During supper I heard disk seven of Brautigam's sonata set, containing Les Adieux, , Op.90, and again the Hammerklavier. Of the two Hammerklaviers, Brautigam is easily my preference. His Les Adieux is for me a highpoint of the set.

Later in the evening I watched / heard HJ Lim play the opening movement of the Moonlight at YouTube. Ms Lim's interpretation is willful and faster than one normally hears it. I quite enjoy it. But then I've never much cared for traditional slow, staid performances of this movement.

ADDENDUM: How in the world did I almost forget I watched / listened to Maurizio Pollini performing the third movement of Les Adieux, recorded in concert? Stunning rendition, in my opinion.

I think I got up on the East side of the bed.
