Do we only have the violin concerto, the two romances and the other concerto that was not finished. Are there no other violin and orchestra works from our beloved Beethoven? I do not find violin and piano that appealing so have gone out and obtained a 2CD set of Saint Saens that has the three violin concertos and about 9 other violin and orchestra pieces.

There is the Triple Concerto, if you don't mind some piano and cello with your violin, and the Benedictus of the Missa Solemnis, with its remarkably beautiful solo violin part. But as for entire pieces just for violin and orchestra, there are no others.
It's too bad you don't care for violin and piano, as the violin sonatas are filled with excellent music. Perhaps one day the right recordings will come along and convert you!

Ah yes. The Triple Concerto certainly works for me just not violin and piano alone. Maybe I will warm up to that someday and then I will have tons more Beethoven violin to listen to. I must say the Saint Saens violin and orchestra is pretty good. I heard he has been called the French Beethoven. Also have the wonderful Mendelssohn violin concerto. There are others, many others. This may be the place for me to explore a diverse spectrum of composers."Life is too short to spend it wandering in the barren Sahara of musical trash."

Venturing into the Romantics, the Tchaikovsky violin concerto is one of my favorite pieces (and I love the Mendelssohn as well). The five Mozart violin concertos are also well worth exploring, especially No. 5. And the Mozart Sinfonia Concertante for violin, viola, and orchestra is fantastic.

Well I have this complete Beethoven set with 87 discs so while I am at work I am going through the violin sonatas. Right now listening to Sonata for violin and piano no 4 in A minor op 231. First movement (Presto) is very good."Life is too short to spend it wandering in the barren Sahara of musical trash."
