Has Brautigam ever recorded the Diabelli variations on fortepiano?

If he has I've found no direct proof of it. My set contains only the sonatas. There are, however, additional non-sonata disks in the cycle available separately. Two of those contain variations. I don't notice Diabelli being amongst their number. AH might know more.

There is, however, an intriguing newish Diabelli disk on the market played on fortepiano by Andreas Staier. It has, naturally, found its way to YouTube. I'm listening to it as I type. I like what I've heard thus far, but admit to being no Diabelli expert.

ADDENDUM: After posting the above, I listened to the WQXR live concert recording of the Op.18 No.4 quartet (very nice) followed by a compilation video of various artists performing the third movement of the Moonlight (interesting).

I don't think he has by looking at his Beethoven recordings:

Maybe he needs a few requests!

Thanks for the heads up about Andras being on you tube DP- bookmarked for listening and downloading tomorrow!

Thanks for the Staier link, DP. Had a listen to it on Youtube, and I also like what I have heard.

Used my Amazon giftcard that I received as a Christmas present to buy Brautigam's Haydn and Mozart piano works.

Great use of that giftcard Hal! Wait til you hear Haydn on fortepiano- he comes alive in a way he does not on modern piano. It really was a revelation hearing his piano sonatas on fortepiano!!!

I bought a 10 CD Ferenc Fricsay set Chrismas Eve! It just shipped today. It has Symphony 1, which is not on my Fricsay Beethoven set of 2 CDs (3, 5, 7, and 8). I already have Fricsay's Ninth. I suspect that there are no recordings of Fricsay for symphonies 2, 4, and 6, so am looking for a substitute to make the cycle complete, as I am into listing to all nine symphonies together. Thought maybe Toscanini or Ferencsik for symphonies 2, 4, and 6, but just not sure.

Been listening to Wand's Beethoven symphony cycle today. Wand's is certainly a top rate cycle.

Oh and I bought a Beethoven symphony cycle yesterday conducted by Janos Ferencsik.

Lalo, Symphony Espanol. Particularly nice for the violin.

My listening has again been confined largely to Beethoven piano sonatas. Several Brautigam disks. Individual sonatas by various pianists at YouTube. I dug out my Diabelli Variations LP but couldn't get in to it after having heard the Staier linked above. (I tend to forget that LP exists, it being filed under D (for Diabelli) rather that B (for Beethoven) since one of its two disks contains the non Beethoven variations.)

My Brautigam Mozart piano sonata/variations set arrived in today's mail! I listened to disk one, containing sonatas No.1-3, KV279-281. Very very nice. I especially enjoy KV281, which sounds more adventurous than the others, at least on first hearing. The fortepiano suits them well. Oddly, the CD sounds better than my Brautigam Beethoven sonatas SACDs, but that might (or might not) be due to the deficiencies of my living room audio system. In any case, if the remaining disks are as enjoyable as the first, I shall be quite pleased with my purchase.

Glad you liked the Mozart. There probably was some difference in how the two composers' sonatas were recorded DP- miking, place recorded etc which you are sensitive to.
