As for other instruments, I'm at a loss there too. All that comes to mind, and this is a long shot since you say guitar isn't for you, is violin. At least with violin you have a decent library of classical works to choose from. Plus, beginner instruments can be had super cheap. You get what you pay for, and would outgrow such an instrument within a few years should you stick with it. But there are a goodly number of student-quality violin reviews at YouTube that'll give you an idea of what you can expect at different price points. But it ain't piano.
Yes, I have seen new violins for under £30 on ebay, but I have no leaning towards violin. I am pretty bad at piano, but a beginner is pretty bad, but I have learned enough to know that piano is the instrument I feel for.

Yes, I know about clavinovas- they are said to be good digital pianos.

Have you thought about pianoteq that I linked? Then you could play fortepiano lol.

Second hand acoustic pianos are risky getting off ebay- ebay is full of Old Cecils!

To get a decent condition second hand piano would cost more than a digital, and anyway:

1- I have no room for an acoustic- my house only has 3 tiny rooms and one walk in cubicle sized kitchen.

2- I am unemployed and broke ( is why I got Cecil from freecycle 4 years ago!)

I shall play poor Cecil until I have an income again and can get a digital, like I said, and dump the bureau in my bedroom and it can go there.
The secondhand piano I got is an acoustic, but before we bought it we did take a look at it and negotiated a price. You could possibly buy a second hand digital piano. Some people are good enough to let you have a look at it before you buy. Stick with cecil until you you're ready to get a digital. At least they don't need to get tuned.

Yes, there are plenty of digitals around- when I finally have the money I can make a space for it in my bedroom. I play Cecil almost daily now, poor thing.

Yes, It's a beautiful piano, I would't be able to part with that kind of money
Do you have a classical music store near you Aeolianharp? If you wan't to buy a piano it is best to try it out yourself first , don't buy until you try. The shop assistant in our music store gave me a demonstration of a few pianos, before I carefully decided , but of course the price is always a crucial factor too.

Do you have a picture of old Cecil?

You may be surprised at what you can find - some people I've known have even been willing to give away their old piano for nothing just to make space. Look out for adverts or even consider putting one in yourself. One piece of advice I must offer is that if you find something you like and can afford, have it checked out by a piano tuner first before buying - it may look lovely on the outside, but be rotten inside!

Yes, well I probably would prefer to go to Gumtree as then you go and see the piano and try it out before buying. But this is a long way off yet!

I'm sure I posted Cecil Piano somewhere, but here is a recent photo of him:

Congrats!!!!!! I'm so glad you are able to stick with your instrument of choice rather than have to switch to one of lesser personal appeal.

Some Megan, not as much as I'd like, as I am out all day on a training/work programme, and have had loads of jobs round the house to do.

I am working on the attached piece at the moment.
